Teresa G. Ficaretta

Fine Art in Pastel and Watercolor

Teresa Ficaretta first became interested in visual art as a music student, first at the University of Oregon as an undergraduate, then later as a graduate student at Boston University. Her first art classes were in basic drawing and watercolor at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon in the 1970s. As her love of art grew, she found herself torn between spending time in the practice room with her flute and time in the art studio working on her drawing and painting skills. She opted for music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music in flute performance in 1976.

Following her dream to become a professional musician, Ms. Ficaretta continued her studies in music at Boston University from 1976-1978. She continued her interest in the visual arts, taking classes in Art History that included visits to the Boston Museum of Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum. It was at those museums that Ms. Ficaretta discovered the medium of pastel and began painting plein air landscapes in that medium. She was chosen to be one of three artists featured in a Boston University exhibition of pastel paintings in 1977.

Ms. Ficaretta moved to Washington, DC in 1978, and continued her art studies at the Corcoran College of Art from 1979-1981. At the Corcoran she honed her drawing skills, developed her sense of composition, and became proficient at the use of color.

Ms. Ficaretta's art career was interrupted in 1981 with the birth of her first child and the beginning of her career as a lawyer. She resumed painting in 1995, following the birth of her third child. Ms. Ficaretta began participating in juried shows in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia in 1999, and has had her paintings chosen for juried exhibitions held throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States.
